3RD WORLD ONLINE DEBATING CHAMPIONSHIPS
IDEA are proud to announce that registration is open for the 3rd World Online Debating
Championships. Thirty two teams from all over the world will compete in a knockout tournament, debating
anything from pre-nuptial agreements, through European tax law, all the way to denying heavy drinkers
liver transplants.
Last year (in front of an all-star judging pool) the Czech Republic beat New Zealand in the final.
Could your team beat the reigning world champions? Can you impress this year’s top adjudicators?
You can team up with anyone: people from the Internet; your school, university or local community;
or, for the hard-core, you can compete by yourself.
This year we’ve upgraded our system, tweaked the rules and improved the prizes. We’re expecting
all 32 places to be filled by exceptional teams and you could be one of them, with a chance to
win the coveted WODC 2011 trophy!
The tournament starts in July and the winners can expect to be involved every two weeks from then
until the end of September. This makes it a very tough competition and whoever ends up victorious can
take great pride in their achievement.
Entry is $20 per person and capped at $100 per team, though bursaries are available to all deserving applicants.
More information can be found on our site, you can register there too: http://debatewise.org/wodc
We are really looking forward to what will be an exceptional tournament and we hope you can join us.

Dear ESU Members
The Edinburgh Conference is getting
closer! This is going to be the biggest international gathering in the
ESU’s 90-year history, and we hope that you and your members are
planning to be a part of it.
When we wrote to you last, we gave
details of the photographic and essay competitions we are organising,
and told you about the Commemorative Yearbook that we hope to publish
to coincide with the Conference. This is just a reminder that the
submission deadline for these is 31st March, so please do make sure
that you get your entries in to us by the end of next month. I also
attach a questionnaire for the Yearbook, and would be grateful if you
could take a few minutes to complete this and return it to us.
If you want further information on the
competitions or the Yearbook, please do not hesitate to contact us here
in Edinburgh, by email, telephone or post. We would be delighted to
answer any queries you may have.
A brief reminder also about booking
for the Conference (postal booking form attached). The full delegate
rate is £300 sterling if you book before 15th May. If you
register after that date, the rate increases to £330, so do
remind your members of this deadline. The sooner you book, the less it
costs!
Finally, I attach an updated draft
programme for your information. Fuller information is available on the
Conference website, where you can also book your place and
accommodation online.
Warmest regards
