ESU Malaysia - Membership

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How to become a member?

Membership is open to citizens and non-citizens residing in Malaysia. We will officially launch ESU Malaysia on 2 November 2002. From this date onwards you can become a member by applying online and once your application has been approved, you can pay either by cash or by cheque or money order payable to “The English-Speaking Union of Malaysia.” RM 1.00 will be levied on all payments made by cheque or money order. You can also register for membership now by coming to the Secretariat Office at 2nd Floor, Wisma BGAM, 15B, Jalan Sungei Besi Indah 1/18, Taman Sungei Besi Indah, 43300 Seri Kembangan, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia or by calling directly at 03-8942 6278. You can speak to Jaffri / Josephine / Christopher to get more info at this office.

2. What are the benefits of joining ESU Malaysia?

We plan to have a monthly Literature Appreciation Evening, for example poetry recitals, book reviews and story telling. Members would get special discounts to attend these evenings.

Other plans for members include the opportunity to attend teaching camps and exchange programmes. These are still being finalised.

3. I’m not from K.L. How do I get my membership form?

Effective 2 November 2002, you can apply online. Even though we have plans to have ESU branches nationwide, this will however take some time. We recommend if you have contacts in Kuala Lumpur, for them to visit our administrative office and see our Hon. Secretary, Jaffri or his assistants Josephine or Christopher to get the form and to pay the fee.

4. Can I come to the official launch?

The official launch is by invitation only as the space at the National Arts Gallery is limited.

However, you may attend our monthly Literature Appreciation Evenings which is open to the public at a fee or a discounted rate for ESU members.

We will keep you updated on this matter via news releases in the local media and our website.

5. How much is the membership fee?

Membership is free for those below 18 years of age. Those between 18 and 25 have to pay an annual fee of RM 10. Those between 26 and 60 years of age have to pay an annual fee of RM 30. Those 61 years old and above have to pay an annual fee of RM 20. However, we propose young members (below the age of 18) who wish to join ESU Malaysia do so with their parents or guardians, to enable them to participate together in the activities.
